Amna Bakhatiar

“I am a Pakistani writer and standup comedian currently residing in Melbourne/Naarm.
Born and raised in Peshawar, Pakistan, I migrated to Canada at 18 before eventually settling in Australia. I spent a transformative year in Alice Springs/Mparntwe, Northern Territory, where I discovered standup comedy and later developed my first solo hour, which I have performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Fringe and Fringe World to packed-out rooms.
As a writer, my work explores identity, movement between cultures, post-colonial influences, societal structures and how they intersect with the personal. My essays and articles have been published in ABC Lifestyle, Dawn (Pakistan's most prestigious English-language newspaper), South Asian Today, and The Globe and Mail.
At this residency I will be writing my next solo comedy hour which I plan on performing at the 2027 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.”
